Session Information

I have created this page with a hope to answer as many questions as possible about your photography session and to make this day as stress-free as possible. Please also check my blog for more tips, ideas and inspirations or contact me with any questions you may have.

Location

When deciding on a location, consider what your family enjoys, and what you imagine your ‘dream’ child, teenage or family portrait to be. Are you more likely to spend time at the beach, the local park, or in the countryside somewhere? You might prefer a city/urban feel to your portraits. Please view the galleries on this website, which will provide you with some inspiration! You’re also welcome to contact us for more information on location guide.
Photo sessions can take place in your home or garden, otherwise you can choose a location such as a park, beach, lake, farm or even the woods where we rely on natural backgrounds and lighting. At time of booking we will discuss these options, to come up with a plan to suit you. Except for newborns, please see below – Newborn photosessions.

Time

While it’s generally best to schedule your session to take place either first thing in the morning or late afternoon/evening, with optimal light, this isn’t always practical. If there’s a time that better suits your family, it can easily be arranged.

What to wear

Your choice of clothing can really make or break your session. Prior to your session date, I will contact you and discuss clothing options and choices. For families I recommend colours that compliment each other. Not everything has to be boring white and denim… be different, be unique!
For little ones, bring a number of outfits that are clean and freshly pressed. Often clothing choice will depend on the location and backdrop. Try to avoid large logos and ‘checked’ shirts. Accessories are fabulous, so come armed with suitcases of hats, headbands and anything else your little one adores.

Pregnancy Photosessions

Pregnancy sessions are best captured at 32-34 weeks pregnant. This is the ideal time, as your baby bump is nice and round, yet you aren’t too uncomfortable. Your pregnancy session will consist of shots of the mother-to-be along with your partner and any other children or significant other. They will either be done in the privacy of your home or in a local park. I have some nice, pretty secluded spots we can go to.

Newborn Photosessions

Newborn sessions are done within the first 10 days of baby’s life. Please schedule your session while you are pregnant to ensure a spot. I book according to your expected due date and I leave ample room around that date to ensure you a spot. After baby arrives, please contact me so we can get your session scheduled. My newborn sessions are done at your my home based studio, however if you are unable to travel I can come to your house or any other preferred location. A typical session can last up to three hours, as I do work around your baby’s feeding/sleeping schedule to make sure I get the shots that we want.

Babies Photosessions

I recommend having your baby photographed as a newborn, at 6 months and one year. Or you can do newborn, 4 months, 8 months and one year. At 4 months, your baby can lift their head up, but not much more. At 6 months, your baby can sit and may reach for things as they are preparing to crawl. This is such a fun age to photograph! By 8 months your baby is crawling and may be able to hold himself up as they are starting to cruise. Twelve months is a huge milestone and so much fun to photograph.
